Resumo

The present study aimed to understand the factors associated with violence among healthcare workers. An integrative literature review was conducted, analyzing articles retrieved through the secondary databases Virtual Health Library, Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information, Scientific Electronic Library Online, and Online System for Searching and Analyzing Medical Literature using the descriptors workplace violence; violence and healthcare professional. The findings of this study demonstrate that violence is intrinsically linked to three determining factors: organizational deficiencies; weaknesses in communication; and external and cultural factors. Mitigating violence in healthcare work requires a shift from a reactive stance to an institutional preventive strategy. It is imperative that healthcare institutions implement zero-tolerance policies toward violence, ensure efficient reporting systems, and provide psychological and legal support to victims, in addition to ongoing educational practices to help build coping strategies.
