Abstract
The transition to a skills-based economy has challenged traditional paradigms of professional training, evidencing a growing gap between formal education and the technical demands of the labor market. This literature review article analyzes the emergence of scalable professional certification models as strategic mechanisms for workforce qualification in technical services. Through a multidimensional analysis, the study investigates the theoretical foundations of these models — anchored in Human Capital and Signaling theories — and evaluates their economic and occupational impacts. Evidence suggests that technological scalability, driven by micro-credentials and digital platforms, not only reduces information asymmetries in recruitment, but also promotes real gains in productivity and wage mobility. The article also discusses the role of Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing in democratizing access to high-quality certification.
