Abstract
Vulvovaginal candidiasis (VVC) is one of the main causes of gynecological consultations in Primary Health Care (PHC), with high prevalence among women of reproductive age. This study aimed to analyze scientific evidence regarding the diagnosis of candidiasis in PHC through an integrative literature review. The search was conducted in Google Scholar, PubMed, and the Virtual Health Library (BVS), using the descriptors “candidiasis” AND “primary care”, resulting in the selection of six articles published in Portuguese. The findings revealed that diagnosis is still predominantly clinical, based on signs and symptoms, although the literature recommends combining it with laboratory tests to improve diagnostic accuracy. A high association with other vaginal infections (80%), a prevalence of 10.89% in population-based studies, and knowledge gaps among users were observed, with up to 75% lacking understanding about the disease. It is concluded that the diagnosis of VVC in PHC faces challenges related to limited resources, need for professional training, and weaknesses in health education, highlighting the importance of integrated strategies to improve care quality.
