Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is considered an important public health problem due to its high prevalence, impact on individuals’ quality of life, and the increase in associated chronic complications. In this context, Primary Health Care, especially through the Family Health Strategy, plays a fundamental role in prevention and health promotion actions, highlighting the nurse’s role as a health educator. This study aimed to develop and support an educational technology based on scientific evidence focused on the prevention of Diabetes Mellitus within the context of the Family Health Strategy. This is a methodological study with a descriptive and qualitative approach, developed in two stages: an integrative literature review and the construction of an educational technology in the form of a booklet. The integrative review was carried out in the SciELO, LILACS, BDENF, and PubMed databases, using the descriptors “Nursing”, “Diabetes Mellitus”, “Health Education”, “Primary Health Care”, and “Family Health Strategy”, combined using the Boolean operators AND and OR. The inclusion criteria comprised full-text articles published between 2020 and 2026, in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, related to the nurse’s role in the prevention of Diabetes Mellitus and the use of educational technologies in Primary Health Care. At the end of the selection process, 16 studies composed the final sample of the review. The results showed that health education is the main strategy used by nurses to promote self-care and prevent complications related to Diabetes Mellitus. In addition, educational technologies, such as booklets and illustrative materials, were identified as tools that favor greater user understanding, strengthening of the bond with the health team, and adherence to preventive practices. As a product of this research, an educational booklet aimed at preventing Diabetes Mellitus was developed using accessible language and attractive visual resources. It is noteworthy that the booklet was developed based on scientific evidence identified in the literature; however, it did not undergo a content or appearance validation process. It is concluded that the nurse’s performance associated with the use of educational technologies represents an important strategy for strengthening preventive actions in Primary Health Care, contributing to health promotion, disease prevention, and improvement in the population’s quality of life.
