INFLUENCE OF STERILE SUPPLY CENTERS ON SAFETY AND QUALITY IN HEALTH SERVICES

Abstract

The Material and Sterilization Center (MSC) plays an essential role in preventing hospital infections and ensuring patient safety, and is responsible for processing, sterilizing, and distributing materials used in clinical and surgical procedures. The quality of these processes has a direct impact on patient safety and the efficiency of health services. Objective: To analyze the efficient performance of the MSC in contributing to patient safety and quality in health services. Methodology: This is a narrative review of the literature. Results and Discussion: The importance of training professionals and using advanced technologies to ensure the effectiveness of sterilization processes is highlighted. The study also emphasizes the role of the National Health Surveillance Agency (NHSA) in defining guidelines and standards that ensure safety and quality in sterilization processes, especially through resolutions such as RDC No. 15/2012, which regulates the activities of the MSC. The importance of modernizing MSC can positively impact the care provided to patients and promote a safer and more qualified hospital environment. Conclusion: This study reinforced the need for greater appreciation of MSC within the hospital environment and, to this end, it is essential that health managers and authorities recognize the importance of these centers, promote continuous investment and encourage professional qualification policies. Only then will it be possible to ensure that hospital sterilization keeps up with scientific advances and fulfills its purpose of saving lives.
