Abstract
Socio-spatial inequalities constitute a structuring element of Brazilian cities, materializing in the unequal distribution of access to urban infrastructure. Urban segregation goes beyond the dimension of physical separation between social groups, also expressing itself in the disparity of access to essential public services, such as basic sanitation, solid waste collection, health, education, and transportation. In the Amazon, territorial development policies, exemplified by the Belém-Bragança Railway and the PA-458 highway in the municipality of Bragança-PA, were guided by a rationality of progress that neglected local specificities and environmental impacts, consolidating an unsustainable development model. Solid waste management finds legal support in the National Solid Waste Policy, established by Law No. 12,305 of 2010. However, Brazil registers low recycling rates. In the state of Pará, the situation is critical, with a recycling rate of 0.48% and 66.7% of urban solid waste being disposed of in open dumps. In Bragança-PA, a municipality with an estimated population of 123,082 inhabitants and a Human Development Index of 0.6, the inadequate disposal of waste in the open dump located near the Marrocos neighborhood exposes the population to unsanitary conditions, creating a situation of socio-environmental vulnerability. Given this context, it becomes imperative to propose a development model that incorporates local plurality and traditional knowledge. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are relevant instruments for the spatialization of inequalities and for supporting the formulation of public policies. This article aims to analyze the perception of the population of Bragança-PA regarding inequalities in access to urban infrastructure in the areas of sanitation, solid waste, health, education, and transportation, through the application of questionnaires and the performance of a qualitative-quantitative analysis.
