SCHOOL DROPOUT IN A RURAL COMMUNITY: CHALLENGES TO RETENTION AND THE RIGHT TO EDUCATION.

Abstract

School dropout in rural communities is a complex phenomenon related to social, economic, family, territorial and school factors. This article presents an excerpt from an ongoing master's research proposal aimed at understanding the interruption of schooling among young people from the rural community of Vila Petrolina, in the municipality of Caracaraí, Roraima, Brazil. The objective is to analyze factors related to school dropout, considering the relationships between work, survival conditions and school permanence. The research adopts a qualitative, exploratory and interpretive approach, combining bibliographic, documentary and field research through a qualitative case study. The study plans to analyze school documents and conduct semi-structured interviews with young people who interrupted basic education, family members and education professionals, as well as, when appropriate, observation of the school and territorial context. The information will be interpreted through content analysis. Since the research is still in development, no conclusive empirical results are presented. The study is expected to contribute to understanding the educational trajectories of rural youth and to reflections on school permanence strategies, pedagogical practices and the right to education in the Amazonian territory.
