Abstract
This study is a literature review, whose general objective is to point out the challenges and opportunities found by elderly people who perform labor activities, verifying whether the labor market is prepared to keep them in the condition of employees, pointing out the causes of their permanence, thus being able to identify which variables affect the functionality of elderly people. Several literatures on the proposed theme were examined and the challenges and opportunities encountered by them were described from the socioeconomic and physiological variables of the elderly. The method used was a bibliographic research, in which indexed articles published from 2004 onwards, written in Portuguese, dealing with the descriptors: labor market, elderly and institutionalized elderly health were included in the review. It was found that there are many challenges to be overcome and that the variables income, time of study and physical and cognitive conditions directly impact the opportunity of the elderly to do well in the labor market and to somehow be able to match the younger worker . It is necessary to implement public policies aimed at the elderly, in all areas of activity, forming a care network in favor of the health of senile workers, minimizing the impact of the variables mentioned and making better use of the qualities of the elderly, who have the experience as ally.
